Secrets, suspicions, seduction, sweet sparks and surprises...Scrumpdiliumptious!

I didn't really fall in love with this series until this third installment. The first two books are Dragon Knight's Sword (Order of the Dragon Knights Book 1) and Dragon Knight's Medallion (Order of the Dragon Knights Book 2)...are both good mythological stories. But this third installment FINALLY pulled me into its grasp and I connected. I don't know why...maybe it just took me two installments to warm up to this paranormal adventure of faeries, dragons, feuding clans and sworn enemies...time travel, druids, and...oh let's see what else...relics, ancient artifacts, curses and legends. I love romance, but not when it overwhelms a plot. And this story had just enough romantic edge without overpowering the development of the story.

Alistair MacKay is a scarred, half Fae Dragon Knight who gains his power from the earth. Alistair is huge...a giant of a warrior. He has long black hair and emerald green eyes that shift to peridot when his fae self rises. He's full of bitter rage from the death of his only sister, for which he blames himself. To punish himself, he sails the sea and stays off land. He is the most powerful of his three brothers (who are all gifted with their own powers). Alistair carries a dark "beast" within himself. I never could figure out if this beast (or demon) was symbolic meaning his rage and bitterness...or if he had an actual second persona living within him. (??). At any rate, this beast sometimes takes on a life of its own and overpowers Alistair's tormented self.

Fiona O'Quinlan lives in the 21st century. She's a 24 y/o researcher of historical tablets and alphabets, translating and documenting them. She loves living in the past. She comes alive and connects with medieval history. It's her passion. Fiona is a petite, curly black haired/blue eyed sweetheart. She's kind and giving...she is no ordinary woman.

This story is like two roads that run parallel to each other, but are in different era's. Our two protagonists proceed down their individual roads in different times...and they are slowly beginning to to intersect until one falls into the time of the other. In this case, Fiona lands 800 yrs. in Medieval Ireland. And once they meet, Alistair takes it upon himself to take Fiona to the O'Quinlans of medieval times. And what better way for our two protagonists to over overcome their differences and fight their attraction than on a long journey?

This story reiterates (from the first two books)..the "great evil" that is spreading throughout Scotland as well as two feuding clans. It brings back Duncan/Brigid (from book #1) and Stephen/Aileen (book #2)...with a satisfying update that brought a smile to my face. Character descriptions are strong and dialogue is balanced nicely with narrative. I never felt like I was sitting in a boring history class. The "sinister drama" is weak...it comes and goes quickly. But there are no loose threads...no holes. And it finishes with a nice set up for the fourth and final installment of the oldest brother...Angus' story.

Highland HEA -- Yeah!

In this third Order of the Dragon Knights series, Alistair and Fiona are the protagonists. Alistair in the 13th century is one of four brother knights "de-knighted" after the death of their sister. His power comes from the land so he keeps to the sea to punish himself for his hand in his sister's death. Fiona, in the 21st century is taken back to the 13th century, kidnapped by slavers and bought by Alistair (who is entirely against slavery). And the complications continue. Fiona is the keeper of Alistair's relic axe. On their journey to the Great Glen to cleanse the axe and return it to Alistair many challenges are encountered. Slowly and cautiously love builds between them. As with the previous books, HEA happens eventually and is woven with care throughout the entire story of 13th century Scotland. A fine read with lots of great information and fine characters to admire.

As With the prior 2 books in the series,Dragon Knight Axe is pure magic...If i could give it more stars, I absolutely would...Ms. Morgans ability to bring words to life is astounding, Her characters complex & well-devloped. This is Alstairs & Fionas story,though the other 2 books were amazing, this resounded deep within me...My favorite by far,if you read nothing else this year..READ THIS !! Marys more then a writer, she's a master storyteller that leaves you in awe....Thank you for the amazing adventure
