From Library Journal
"You're a bum , he told me/ and you'll always be a bum . . . and it's too bad he's been dead/ so long/ for now he can't see/ how beautifully I've succeeded/ at/ that." True to his words, this prolific poet loves to play the oversexed bum, continually lashing out at other writers, the rich, and anyone who fails to appreciate his brilliance. This collection takes a new turn, though, as Bukowskinow in his sixtieslooks back on some tender memories of youth. Other redeeming features include a self-mocking humor and a love for cats. For larger collections, and those whose readers are not easily offended by four-letter words. Rochelle Ratner, formerly Poetry Editor, "Soho Weekly News," New York

About the Author
Charles Bukowski is one of America’s best-known contemporary writers of poetry and prose and, many would claim, its most influential and imitated poet. He was born in 1920 in Andernach, Germany, to an American soldier father and a German mother, and brought to the United States at the age of two. He was raised in Los Angeles and lived there for over fifty years. He died in San Pedro, California, on March 9, 1994, at the age of seventy-three, shortly after completing his last novel, Pulp.

I can't remember a time when a book made me feel dirty and drunk from just reading it
By W.U.
Reading Bukowski is a dangerous affair; one should probably wear a mind condom. Seriously, I can't remember a time when a book made me feel dirty and drunk from just reading it, and I don't mean that "drunk with love" Lifetime crap. I almost joined AA, I tell you. Now I need a shower too.
On a more serious note, Buk is at his best when his cynicism and misanthropy gets the best of him, "Relentless as the tarantula" and "Drive through hell" are prime examples of this. In a way, his genius stems from letting the reader soak in his world without having him/her feel utterly depressed. It's mean, blunt, dark, direct. This would he explain why he gets along so well with cats.
A total riot!

Short stories of Bukowski
By Bob S.
If you want to know if you will like Bukowski without committing to a novel, this is the ticket for you. I read a bout half of them and decided that while I think he is an amazing writer, guttural, honest, in your face and darkly familiar; I just couldn't finish it. His style is very dark and he writes so well that he can easily affect the mood of his reader. I needed something lighter after reading these stories. But if that style is for you, you can't do much better than Bukowski. It's just not for me.

They didn't steer me wrong and it's a great book of his works
By Cody
Revisiting Bukowski and decided on this book based on customer reviews. They didn't steer me wrong and it's a great book of his works. It's the same Bukowski, but liked mentioned in the other reviews some are some works have a touch or a tad of a softness emerging. It's a great collection and worth the buy!
