I got a DEFECTIVE one!!

The quality of the book is aweful! I got a defective one and, because my class started using the textbook after the refund deadline (I didn't take off the plastic until I needed it for class), it appears I'm stuck with it. It really upsets me to have paid $113.97 for this book, when I can't even read some of the text! I'm so disappointed.

Review For Students

It's my profession so I bought it for school. What I didn't realize is that there is a new one every year, there are some minor changes, but I learned why doing a school training program, that if you work on your own doing remote coding, you will need to purchase the current one. I taught I would be able to use this book for years to come. It would be cool if you could rent it, but I don't think there are those options. If you can link up with another student who did this class in the same year, see if you could borrow it, or purchase it cheaper.

The coding are very easy to determine and locate. I think I prefer CPT coding instead, but you have to make sure you get all of the procedures. It was fun.

About the Author

Good but redundant.

I bought both the Divided Mind and the Mind Body Prescription, at the same time....they are nearly identical so I was a bit disappointed. I thought the Divided Mind would be more of an in depth look at the same subject.

Not concise instructions on eliminating disorders

A lot of wordy sivtuff and saying needing to go back in to your past and see what triggers pain,but is not concise enough in the
treatment which is needed. Meditation is the pathway I like to take to calm and release negativity which helps to relax muscles, reduce spirit, and become in tune to your higher self .. Book just too not to the point, wanted something simple, step by step.
Do not discount the premise of the book . Think it has validity. May have another book which is more detailed on the actual process of eliminating disorders. Says go to group psychotherapy and psychotherapy.......

Read Sarno's Other Books First

I give this book five stars. It is John E. Sarno's most recent book that he has written on TMS. I jumped into it and then realized that it would be better for me to go back and read Healing Back Pain and The Mindbody Perscription in that order. So that is exactly what I did and now I feel like this book is making much more sense to me. I highly recomend this book, but after someone has read one or both of the other books by Sarno that I mentioned above.

About the Author

Alexander C. Diener is an Assistant Professor of Geography at the University of Kansas. He is the author of One Homeland or Two?: Nationalization and Transnationalization of Mongolia's Kazakhs.

Joshua Hagen is Professor of Geography at Marshall University. He is the co-editor of Borderlines and Borderlands: Political Oddities at the Edge of the National State (with Alexander C. Diener) and author of Preservation, Tourism and Nationalism: The Jewel of the German Past.

Short, easy read that hits the hot button topics

Although several notable scholars have opined that borders are a thing of the past due to increasing globalization, Diener and Hagen put that false notion to rest in the first few pages. In fact, while borders have always been dynamic, new borders continue to emerge where uncertainty previously existed. At the same time, the nature of old borders changes as NGOs, the international nature of the internet, and supranational organizations change the way people cross borders.

Borders continue to be an indispensable fact of everyday life across the spectrum of humanity: for the common traveller, who has to apply for passports, visas, and wait in line at border crossings; for legal and illegal immigrants who face deportation and/or long waits for citizenship; for transborder communities such as those along the Pakistan-India border; and for world leaders who must deal with modern border issues such as international computer hackers and sovereign air space.

In only 124 pages, the Drs. Diener and Hagen provide a background on the practice of bordering from ancient to modern times, with attention to two impactful events that have shaped modern borders: rise of nationalism in Europe and colonial bordering.

This is the first Very Short Introduction I've read which had no wit or humor, but it's very thorough and fulfills its contract with the reader who wants a complete overview of the subject, from nations to neighborhoods. It is certainly thought-provoking and can raise awareness to complex issues.

Roversi's Elusive "Studio"

I'd love to review this book, if it ever would get released. Roversi has been a favorite of mine for many, many years, and I've been anticipating the release of this book ever since I learned of it.
I actually had it on order for over a year, with my order first placed a couple of months shortly before the book was to be released in 4th quarter 2002. Then, with only a month or so to go until the scheduled release date, it was mysteriously pushed back--if I remember correctly--about 13 months to late 2003. When that date passed without a release, Amazon told me that they had received them, but the book had not been released, so couldn't ship them. The release date was then listed as being a couple of weeks later, December 23rd of 2003.
When that date passed without the release, Amazon told me that in fact, they did not have them, and they did not know when the book would be released. When I asked them--twice--to specifically explain why they had said the books had been received, and then later denied that they were in their warehouse, they would not. And neither would Amazon provide me a contact for the publisher so I could try and get some first-hand information from them, as dealing with Amazon was turning into a complete waste of my time.
Completely and utterly frustrated, and angry with Amazon's inability to tell a straight story or provide an avenue for me to get information from the publisher, I finally cancelled my order in March 2004, with the "projected" release date still listed at December 23rd of 2003.
Now, with the book never having been released, Amazon lists availablility as "Out of Print--Limited Availability". Good work, Amazon! Accoring to them, it's already in the cut-out stacks without even one book having gotten into consumer's hands. Looks like it will never get reviewed, huh?

I absolutely agree with the other review for this book: I also had ordered it, I was also expecting it to be published, I also cancelled the order since nothing was happening, I'm also disappointed with the fact that I don't know if it will ever be in my hands... what does "limited availability" mean? Is there only one copy belonging to own Paolo Roversi?

This book has helped me a lot with the rehabilitation aspect of Athletic Training, which is my major at school. Two of the grad assistance have it and loved it, so I decided to get the book! So far it has been the best move, I have learned new exercises to help with athlete's that I didn't know about prior to this book. The only downfall was I bought it used from someone whom claimed the book had "NO writing or Highlighting" inside and once I received the book it was filled with highlighting. If it doesn't bother you when other people have highlighted information that you might not want highlighted than go ahead and buy it used. If not than I really recommend buying it new, especially if you are in a physical therapy or sports medicine field.

Highly Recommended

I have followed April Henry's novels since the first charming title, "Circles of Confusion." She has developed considerable polish and professionalism over her many writing outputs. I thoroughly enjoyed this title. The subject matter was common enough--serial killing of young women--but the novel was unique in several ways. The characters are primarily teens who participate in the Search and Rescue teams serving the greater Portland area. Each of the teens portrayed is facing her or his own problems, and these are presented with understanding and compassion. They approach their challenges proactively and with some insight to their own motivations and drives. The novel also guides us to challenge our own prejudices about homeless people and the difficulties they face subsisting in an urban environment. I found the book easy to read and understand but not simple in its subject matter or execution. I recommend it highly.

Step by step you experience what a group of three teens,a boy and two girls, go through helping in the investigation.

Rhonda K. Garelick is professor in the department of English and at the Hixson-Lied School of Fine and Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is the author of "Rising Star: Dandyism, Gender, and Performance in the Fin-de-Siecle" (Princeton).

A provocative assessment of Loie Fuller's significance

I have long recognized the important role Loie Fuller played in 20th century dance, and her impact on turn-of-the-century arts and letters. (Her influence on Mallarmé and Rodin alone would qualify her as worthy of study.) An American who made her greatest impact in Paris, Fuller is most often cited as a brilliant technician for her manipulations of costumes, scenery and especially lighting. But if one examines how other artists (visual and literary) responded to her work, their reactions were far from "technical." There's a good bio of Fuller (by the Currents), and (if you read French) the study "Loie Fuller, Danseuse de l'Art Nouveau" that looks at her influences on visual art. But Garelick's book is the first I've encountered that really examines Fuller's work as a dancer, artist, and filmmaker, and attempts to examine the work's content from several perspectives. This is a thoughtful, well-written study, and I'll forgive Garelick occasionally repeating herself for the insights she offers into Fuller the dancer and artist, and the unique, seminal place she had in the history of modern dance.

Dancing With the Stars

This is "cultural studies" at its best. Garelick examines the life and the work of Loie Fuller and allows us to see her impact upon the culture from she sprang, and which she subsequently influenced. Modern dance would not be what it became without her example, and people outside the dance world (like William Butler Yeats) were as caught under her spell as balletomanes and other dance fans. Superbly written, and full of interesting facts and well-formulated ideas.

How to Read the Bible!

This book gives an excellent frame of reference with which to read the Bible. Merton clearly addresses what the Bible is and what it is not, what to expect and what not to expect. This book prompts the reader to examine their own life and purposes; it calls on the reader to have a personal relationship with the Word of God. It cautions the reader who reads with a proscribed agenda and begs each individual to set aside their own preconceived ideas and let the Bible speak to them in its own way.
Merton wholehearedly accepts that fact that the Bible can be shocking, boring, questioning, and tedious. But at the same time he doesn't want us to simply disregard that which doesn't make sense to us in one momentary reading. Instead he wants us to accept the Bible in its wholeness even though we may not understand all of it at once.
He further asserts that "the Bible is a 'worldly' book in the sense that it sees God at the very center of man's life, his work, his relations with his fellow man, his love of his wife and children, his play and his joy." He continually reiterates that the central message in the Bible is one of unity, reconciliation and wholeness.
Altogether, this outstanding book can help open your mind and give you a proper frame of reference for reading the Bible.

Merton's Classic opens one to the Word and its uses not only in our prayer life, but our daily lives as well. This well written treatise calls one to question their lives and to read God's Word more frequently.

Questions and Answers

"Opening the Bible" was a project that Thomas Merton undertook with the intention that it would become an introduction to a publication of the Bible by Time-Life. While the deal fell though, Merton continue to work on the project with this being the final result.

In the scope of Merton's writing, it is easy to overlook this one. In nature, this essay presents a series of open ended questions but never gives a defintive answer. Like the Bible, "Opening the Bible" will not give an easy answer to the questions of life. The stated purpose of the book is to answer broad questions and problems about the bible itself. The book will not tell the reader where to find his/her personal answers. "... One does not go from answer to answer, but from question to question."

While I felt Merton could have went further than he did in this essay, I appreciate the fact that he discusses the Bible in the perspective of modern life. References artists and writers of modern time give Merton's arguements a sense of realism.
